Sunday mowing and neighborhood

Daytime noise encompasses noise disturbances likely to disturb the neighborhood. We also talk about noises of behavior. These can be caused by:

  • an animal (dog barking, rooster crowing, etc.);
  • an individual (heels, cries, family reunion…);
  • one thing (TV, stereo, DIY tool and, in our case, a mower).

Article R1336-5 of the Public Health Code also states that "no particular noise may, by its duration, repetition or intensity, affect the tranquility of the neighborhood […] ».

When you know that a petrol mower can emit up to 95 dB, you must therefore be careful in your choice of schedule for mow on Sunday.

Note that according to articles R623-2 and R49, failure to comply with these rules is punishable by a violation of 3eclass amounting to 68 euros.

Can we mow on Sunday?

As a general rule, the hours when mowing on Sundays is tolerated are as follows:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Sunday: 10 a.m. to noon.

Reading this, you will therefore be tempted to conclude that you can mow on Sunday. Yes, but it’s not that simple. Indeed, mayors have the power to change regulations, and some of them do not hesitate to ban mowing on Sundays.
